Dona was in New York City that day to visit with family and friends and was in the lobby of Tower 2 when the first plane hit.

TX Attorney General Tells Atheists: “Don’t Mess With Texas”

By Todd Starnes/TWITTER

The Texas Attorney General has offered to defend a Texas county under attack by a group of Wisconsin atheists who are demanding that a Nativity located on the lawn of the Henderson County courthouse be torn down.

“Our message to the atheists is don’t mess with Texas and our Nativity scenes or the Ten Commandments,” Attorney General Greg Abbott told Fox News & Commentary. “I want the Freedom From Religion Foundation to know that our office has a history of defending religious displays in this state.”

Abbott sent a letter to Henderson County Judge Richard Sanders offering whatever help he could provide in the event the county is sued. He also assured the judge that the county has no legal obligation to remove the Nativity scene from the courthouse grounds.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation, a group based in Wisconsin, sent a letter to Henderson County explaining that a local resident had complained and they wanted the Nativity removed.

“It sends a message of intimidation and exclusion to non-Christians and non-believers this time of year,” FFRF co-founder Annie Laurie Gaylor told television station KFDW.

Athens Daily Review photo

She said the location of the Nativity — on the lawn of the courthouse in Athens, made non-Christians feel unwelcome.

“Anybody walking by that is going to say, ‘Hmmm. This is a Christian government building. I’m not welcome here if I’m not Christian,’” she told the television station.

Attorney General Abbott said the organization is trying to “bully local governmental bodies” and he said he wanted to make sure Henderson County knows “there is a person, a lawyer and an organization in this state that has their back, that has the law, that has the muscle and firepower to go toe-to-toe with these organizations that come from out of state trying to bully governmental bodies into tearing down things like Nativity scenes.”

Many residents and ministers in this east Texas community have vowed to fight back. Hundreds of people are expected to attend a rally on Saturday to show their support for the Nativity. Nathan Lorick, the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Malakoff is one of the organizers of the rally. He called on residents to gather peacefully and in a spirit of love.

“It’s time that Americans stand up and take America back for the faith that we were founded upon,” Lorick told Fox News & Commentary last week. “We’re going to stand up and fight for this.”

Henderson County Commissioner Joe Hall called the attack “stupid” and said he’s going to do whatever it takes to stop the group from removing the Nativity.

“I’ll tell you this — I’m going to fight this until hell freezes over,” Hall told Fox News & Commentary. “I hope and pray that we leave it up.”

Hall said he’s lived in the community for 35 years and as long as he can remember the Nativity has been erected on the courthouse lawn.

“It’s been up there for decades without any complaints,” he said.

Pastor Lorick said it’s time to draw a line in the sand — and start standing up for the Christian faith.

“Christianity is under attack in America,” he told Fox News & Commentary. “Our country is quickly heading down a direction which the Christian faith is taking a hit — it’s quickly becoming suppressed.”

The attorney general agreed with that sentiment.

“There has been an ongoing battle between the forces of atheism and the forces of those who are antagonistic to all things religious against those who recognize the religious heritage of this country,” Abbott said. “And by defending Nativity scenes, by defending the Ten Commandments and by defending students who try to say a prayer at a graduation ceremony, we’re trying to preserve, protect and defend what we know is perfectly legal.”

Obama Campaign Collecting GOP Emails

Obama Campaign Collecting GOP Emails

by Keith Koffler on December 14, 2011, 10:13 am

http://www.whitehousedossier.com/2011/12/14/obama-campaign-collecting-republican-emails/

The Obama presidential campaign is launching an effort to collect Republican email addresses by inviting its supporters to submit information about their Republican associates to the Obama 2012 website.

The effort could help the Obama campaign build a database that would enable it to target Republican voters during the general election campaign. But, more perniciously, it could also become part of an Democratic effort to influence Republican primary voters to select a candidate Democrats think Obama could most easily defeat.

The Democratic National Committee last month released a video that seemed designed to damage Mitt Romney, the GOP candidate feared most by the Obama campaign.

The Obama information collection effort is cast under the mischievous guise of asking Obama supporters to “have a little fun at the expense of a Republican in your life” by signing them up to get an email from the Obama campaign ribbing them for having “inspired” the Obama supporter to donate.

The result, however, is that the Obama campaign gets a new trove of Republican email addresses that it could never have collected through voluntary submissions.

From the Obama website:

Who inspires you to give?

This holiday season, we’re giving you a chance to have a little fun at the expense of a Republican in your life by letting them know they inspired you to make a donation to the Obama campaign.

Simply enter their name and email address below. Then, we’ll send them a message letting them know they inspired you to donate.

Thank you for supporting this campaign, and happy holidays.

Important: By making a donation today, you’ll be automatically entered for a chance to have dinner with Barack and Michelle Obama. By clicking on the “Submit” button below or otherwise participating in the promotion, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules and represent that you satisfy all of the eligibility requirements.

The effort is being supported by emails from the campaign to members of the vast Obama 2012 email list urging them to participate.

One message, from Deputy Campaign Manager Julianna Smoot, also invites donors to buy something from the Obama 2012 store for their Republican friend.

Really want to fire up your GOP friends? Buy them a gift from the 2012 store. I recommend the birther mugs — they get the message across pretty well.

The email was sent Tuesday. If the Obama supporter sends the gift directly to their Republican friend, then the campaign has a new personal address for its database.

John Cornyn warns Attorney General Holder not to mess with Texas voter ID law

http://blog.chron.com/txpotomac/2011/12/john-cornyn-warns-attorney-general-holder-not-to-mess-with-texas-voter-id-law/

Texas Sen. John Cornyn sent a clear message to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder this afternoon: Don’t mess with Texas’ voter identification law.

“Voter identification laws are constitutional and necessary to prevent fraud at the ballot box,” Cornyn said.

The San Antonio Republican, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, made his comments hours before Holder is scheduled to speak at the Lyndon B. Johnson Library in Austin. Holder is planning to criticize “voter ID” laws passed by Republican legislatures in states including Texas.

Democrats say the laws are designed to reduce minority voter turnout in the 2012 election. But Cornyn said President Obama is the one who’s politicizing the issue.

“Facing an election challenge next year, this administration has chosen to target efforts by the states to protect the democratic process,” Cornyn said. “They would do well instead to focus on job creation, the economy, and reducing our national debt.”

Redistricting Timeline

With the 2012 election
process having kicked into gear and action now taking place in three
courts, here’s a combined timeline of what’s on deck the next few weeks.

December 12:  The D.C. panel in the preclearance case holds a telephonic status conference at 3 p.m. (ET).

The DOJ and intervenors in the preclearance case also are due to file
briefs by 5 p.m. (ET) on what benchmarks the court should use at trial
to determine if retrogression occurs under the state’s maps.

In the San Antonio case, the state has said it will file a motion to
get clarification about filing deadlines for state house, senate, and
congressional districts.  It’s possible we also could see other motions
by parties in that case.

December 13:  The San Antonio court holds a status
conference at 10 a.m. to take up possible changes to the election
schedule.  The state and redistricting plaintiffs are to confer with
political party representatives and state election officials beforehand
to see if agreement can be reached about needed changes.

December 14:  The State of Texas must respond in the D.C. case by 5 p.m. (ET) to briefing by DOJ and intervenors retrogression benchmarks.

December 15:  The candidate filing period closes at 6 p.m. (local time).

December 16:  State chairs must deliver lists of certified statewide candidates to county chairs.

December 20:  Ballot order draw in each county.

December 21:  The parties’ opening briefs are due at the Supreme Court by 2 p.m. (ET) in the appeal over the interim maps.

December 22:  Deadline for county chairs to deliver
lists of candidates to county and state election officials.  This is
also the date by which the Texas Secretary of State recommends county
election officials submit precinct boundary changes and polling places
changes to DOJ for preclearance.

January 3:  Parties’ reply briefs in the interim-map appeal are due at the Supreme Court by 2 p.m. (ET)

Early January:  In most counties, the printing of
ballots requires 2-3 weeks. The first mail ballots are due to be sent
out January 21, meaning that printing will take place in early January.
Precinct boundaries also will need to be finalized by this date.

January 9:  Oral argument before the Supreme Court at 1 p.m. (ET) on the interim-map appeal.

January 13:  Date set by the San Antonio panel by
which counties must send out new voter certificates listing the voter’s
precinct and the districts that he or she is in.

January 21:  Date by which federal election law requires that military mail ballots be sent out by.

February 6:  Last day to register to vote.

February 21-March 2:  Early voting period (for now) for the March 6 primary.

March 6:  Primary election day (for now).

March 6-11: The Democratic and Republican parties
hold their precinct conventions to select delegates for senate district
and county conventions.

March 24:  Democratic and Republican parties hold
their senate district and county conventions and select delegates by
senate district for their state conventions.

April 7:  Deadline for counties to send mail ballots for the primary runoff to military and overseas voters.

May 12:
Municipal and local elections in many Texas jurisdictions.

May 14-18
:  Early voting for primary runoffs.

May 22:
Primary
runoff elections in Texas.  This is also the date the state has
suggested for legislative and congressional primaries. (The state has
not suggested a period for early voting for legislative and
congressional primaries, but the normal primary early voting period is
10 days, which would cause it to overlap with the May 12 municipal
elections.)

One important date that is not yet set is the date for trial in the
preclearance case in Washington. It’s also not clear if a bifurcated
primary is held (or the primary date is moved in its entirety) when
runoff elections would be.

Texas Redistricting taken over by the courts

The Texas legislature redraws the districts for State House, State Senate, and Congress every 10 years to accurately reflect the changes and shifts in population. Our 82nd Legislature did just that. The maps they drew passed the State House and State Senate, and were signed into law by Governor Rick Perry.

However, Obama’s Justice Department has taken the maps to court, and now a panel consisting of three Federal judges has totally redrawn the maps without regard to Texas law or the will of the people. They slipped these new maps by us on Thanksgiving Eve.

In Nueces County, the court drawn maps will leave us with a Senate District based in the Valley, a Congressional district based in either Houston or the Valley, and our House districts would be a jumbled mess. These maps would be good for 10 years until the next redistricting process is completed.

In 2010, record breaking conservative victories in Nueces County gave us hope for the future. This three judge panel’s ruling clearly seeks to remove any influence Nueces county has at the state and national level.

On November 27, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbot filed a stay with the US Supreme Court.. If granted, this stay could restore the maps drawn by legislature.

Please review the following maps and share this with everyone you know-Republican, Democrat, Independent–all should be outraged to see this attempt to pull our voice from Nueces and surrounding counties.  Note how the lines are drawn to minimize the impact of the citizens of Nueces County.
